Wasn't going to update for a while, but this one has my curiosity. These features will play nicely with my latest project.

Coding is little by little claiming my sleep time.

Any chances for an update that makes humans require less sleep?

I get the same result on a fresh install w/ Twenty Eleven theme so i believe this is Symposium related.

@Simon if you get a chance look into this. In the meantime I will disable that feature...

I will comment out the button for now, but less advanced users are stuck with it showing...

I'll check the mailing out problem, but when I disable it from Groups->Admin, the menu item disappears on my dev copy. Does your menu item still stay there? Or are you referring to a different button?

yes mine stays there. That part could be my mod.

Also, it seems that groups can not be set to "public".  

Even when the box is unchecked to "hide content from non-members"

I am 95% finished with a mod which has changed group pages to local business pages, and these pages are meant to be visible to ALL VISITORS.

I wil take a shot at hard coding a remedy for this, but in my opinion all pages should at least have the option of being public.

Otherwise, symposium will only be useful as a blog. Why not open it up to the other uses that it is sooo close to being able to handle?  Just my opinion.

Public option for groups would be a nice addition...

OK - checked it on a fresh install and the send invites button is removed as it is suposed to when unchecked.

The email issue still exists though...

I've tried to replicate the problem, and can only do it if I enter a blank line (which I've fixed for next release).

It fails if the PHP mail function reports that it didn't send out okay. WPS uses WordPress mail function, which returns a false if they email didn't send, which then causes the (failed) to show.

Which email address(es) are you using? Can I use them as a test? If you post them here I'll take a copy and then remove (to avoid them being screen-grabbed for spam....!).

I suppose you've got to take a look at your server mail logs and see if there are any errors in either sending the mail, or seeing if it sent but you got a handshaking error. WPS uses WordPress mail function, which in turn uses PHP mail function (or Windows mail function).

So unfortunately I don't think it's a WPS issue, I think it's an issue with mail sending via PHP (assuming you're using PHP). Can you send an email to that address via the test on WPS installation page okay? (it uses the same method to send mail, in fact the whole of WPS uses the same symposium_sendmail() function in symposium_functions.php.

That email fails to send as well.

Probably an IIS7 thing, as this used to work on Apache.

I'll look deeper into it, IIS7 is a different animal, sometimes its behavior can be un-anticipated/ unpredictable...

 I'll post a solution for others in the IIS7 camp when I find it.....

IIS7 requires SMTP to be set up in order for PHP applications to send email (that's OK you wanted your own email server anyway, right?)

As with most IIS7 subjects:

A slightly more complicated set up process is the price you pay for the additional features/ capabilities.

If one wants "easy" Apache is the way.

If one is willing to do some (...okay alot of) extra studying to have extra features/ capabilities then IIS7 is for you

NOTE:

YOU MUST MANUALLY START THE SMTP SERVICE AND SET IT TO AUTOMATIC,

otherwise NO DICE!

testing photo embedding of large photos...

testing photo embedding of smaller photos...

• As you can see from the above 2 posts, forums are discriminating against embedding larger files. 
• Today's phones have at least 10 mega pixel resolution,
• Can we change this behavior so people don't have to resize photos first?
• Is there a mod I can make to change this behavior without (ugggh) updating?
• The forums can resize a photo 550px wide, why will it not resize larger size photos to fit?
• This bug defeats the purpose of allowing embedded photos, only photos from a 10 year old digital camera will show.

Any thoughts on correcting this?

this one is less than 600px and will not embed:

• This one is only 300px x 400px and will not embed.

• It is actually smaller than the one that did embed, so it may not be a size related discrimination. both files are .jpg. Tried several others which have posted successfully elsewhere, so this is not a photo related issue..
• This feature is paramount to my current build. No fix and no pay. Not good...

The system was actually discriminating against caps in the file extension...?..

Go to Dashboard-->Symposium--> Settings -->Image extensions

Add a duplicate of every file extension in capitol letters,

Morning all, many thanks for your work whilst I slept 

I'll change the case sensitivity, that should be implied I think.  For those reading through this thread, it will mess up the demonstrations once the fix has been uploaded as those with capital letter extensions will then work, but hey ho.....

(I'll also hide the yuk horizontal scroll bar - by changing the width value of inline images in Forum Settings). 

Actually, the way it's fixed is when the image is uploaded, so it won't effect those previously uploaded with upper case extensions. When uploaded, the filename is made all lower case from next release.

FYI, on the forum, WPS resizes to a manageable size and doesn't keep the original. In the Gallery plugin, the original is kept (so people can see and share originals), plus a manageable size and a thumbnal version. Three sizes are used in the gallery to avoid using unnecessarily large image sizes.

This attached file originally had an upper case extension.
