2) There's a hook that allows populating the Members' rows, so you can add a function in your functions.php, hence perennial mods along upgrades.

AG, thanks for chiming in.... but in regards to #2 I am not looking to add any profile fields. The elements that already show up by default are what I do NOT want to be visible in the directory. I had already seen the link you provided. But again, why should admins be forced to hack the functions file after every upgrade when a template should be added to the backend symposium admin panel? This is my concern.

The hook symposium_directory_member_filter receives what is already written in the row ($html), so you can replace it completely.

This written, I agree with you that templates have their own interrest, esp. since we already started working with them.

Yep, without posting a length apology and retraction, suffice it to say I'll put make the mail template options for mailboxitem and mailmessage (the mail header is not applicable as it's just the tabs).

Thanks one and all - holiday season is approaching, and in the usual tradition (well, second year...) I don't want to put anything major out in case it all goes horribly wrong and I'm not around to sort things out.

The list is a little busy right now, but I will get the mail templates put back as that was a bit of a whoopsy on my part. As a message to anyone who is reading this, if anything is "forgotten" don't be afraid to nudge me. But August will certainly be a quiet month (in fact last few days of July to end of August), so please wait until September. It sounds a long time, but it's only a few weeks
