Import Users from BuddyPress
Started by Bishop mxmanuel 1 year ago

Hi,

I have an "old" site - wordpress multisite - with a buddypress forum. There are about 180 users and many of them have a lot of pictures on their profile.
Is there any prooven way to transfer these users into a wordpress/symposium installation?

Thanx for any answers

mxmanuel

If they are in a wordpress site they are already members, as with buddy press they all have to join the site through wordpress.  YOU can import your forum's as well. via the installation screen in symposium.

Hope this help's you out.

Hi Robert,

thank you for your fast reply...but it leads to more questions:

If I want to try that localy on my computer with the free symposium version, will then also the albums of the users be integrated?

As far as I remember is an album a feature only for bronce members...

Hmm?

Does "I do not think so. Sorry" mean

a) albums will not be integrated anyway

b) with a bronce-member version it will work

The albums are not imported, and I am sorry they would (albums) be lost. Your members would have to make a new album.

The gallery is a bronze feature you can test it out all the bronze features. It places a nag bar on the site.

Sorry I was not clear enough

Thanks again for your answer.

How can I test all the bronze features?

Download and then for a limited time?

I have a bronze plugin on one of my sites. Can I use it twice? - a second version local on xampp?

You can test all the bronze features. A Bronze package will allow 3 sites to use the same code to avitvate.
It puts a nag bar on your site but you can test them no problem.

Looking forward to hearing what you think as you have used buddy Press. Smile

Oh, what I think is easy to say:
Symposium is much btter to handle than buddypress.
Thats the reason for me to change.

Thank you, and I really hope you like WPS and how easy it is to handle.

Hi Robert,

now I have setup a fresh WP / Symposium installation on my local machine.

What I want to do is to import users and their galleries from another site of mine, wordpress mulltipage with a buddypress forum, into this new setup, but without the multisite feature.

Could you give me a hint, where and how to start?

I was searching for something like an import button, but didn't find anything, so far.

WPS only Import from the same site. It does not import acress sites.  At the bottom of the install page if you have BB Press or Mingle it will show the import option as it auto detects them there.
If you do not see them  there is a button called show installation help click it and more opens up there.
