More grist for the mill. (This is a re-post of a reply I posted on another thread I had created. Please forgive the duplication.)

Simon, PLEASE HELP! (in between your bouts of well-deserved vacation).

In addition to the "Everyone" issue described above, WPS seems to have stuck on only two of my s2Member membership levels and will not recognize a change in permission settings for the others.

The details...

I'm still in development in the sandbox environment, planning to go live in early September, so I need this to get resolved very soon. During development, I have been using two different s2Member levels to represent two different types of test users:

• Level 5 (for paid members)
• Level 21 (for honorary, non-paying members).

When the site goes live, new members will joining at Level 6.

For some reason, my Forum Category permissions seem to be stuck on Levels 5 and 21 and won't allow anything else. Here is a set of permission settings for a test category and the Forum page results. In each test case, the test user is logged in at the specified membership level.

TEST CONFIGURATION A (Works)
User Level: 5
Permission Settings: Everyone, Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum works as advertised, shows category, New Topic button, SEARCH etc. links

TEST CONFIGURATION B (Does not work)
User Level: 5
Permission Settings: Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum shows New Topic button and SEARCH etc. links... but NOT the category

TEST CONFIGURATION C (Does not work)
User Level: 6
Permission Settings: Everyone, Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum shows message, "Please log in to see this page."

TEST CONFIGURATION D (Does not work)
User Level: 6
Permission Settings: Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum shows message, "Please log in to see this page."

TEST CONFIGURATION E (Works)
User Level: 21
Permission Settings: Everyone, Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum works as advertised, shows category, New Topic button, SEARCH etc. links

TEST CONFIGURATION F (Does not work)
User Level: 21
Permission Settings: Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum shows New Topic button and SEARCH etc. links... but NOT the category

I tried renaming the levels in s2Member to take out spaces... no luck, same behavior.

I cannot launch until this is resolved, because I need the new members who join at Level 6 to have access to the Forum. And in the future, members will be joining at other levels, all of which will need to access the Forum. But the current issue won't allow them to do so.

Another note, with a bit more grist for that mill.

On the Forum Categories page, the "Check/uncheck all" option does not behave properly.

If I click the option for a given forum category, all of its permission levels show as checked. But as soon as I click the Save button at the bottom of the page to save the permissions options, WPS clears all of permissions levels for that category... so that suddenly NONE of them are checked.

This is repeatable behavior independent of category.

Hi Scene13 - I see that you are using an older version of the WPS plugin. I think this may have been solved. Could you try the latest version? Just in case, you can take a copy of the wp-symposium plugin folder first so you can always revert back - in fact I would recommend it whenever upgrading any plugin.

If this doesn't sort it out, of course reply here and I'll take a closer look. If you can try this weekend that would be really helpful, to give us time to look into it before holiday season part 2....

I updated to v12.09, and the issue is partially solved... but only the bit having to do with my own stupidity. The issues with the "Everyone" setting and "Check/uncheck all" permissions are still there.

1. The stupidity bit...
While investigating after the update, I realized that I had not correctly set my Forum (not Forum Categories) permissions settings so that Level 6 could see the forum. That's why I was experiencing the problems yesterday when changing user levels. I've set the Forum permissions correctly, now, and that part is fixed.

2. The "Everyone" setting (categories do not show on the Forum without it)...
For any given forum category, the category does not appear on the Forum unless the "Everyone" permission is checked. Even if all of the other roles are checked, if "Everyone" is missing, the category does not appear.

Likewise, if "Everyone" is checked the category appears on the Forum at all membership levels regardless of the other permissions settings for the category... which is the proper functionality for the "Everyone" setting, I suppose. But because the category does not appear unless "Everyone" is checked, I cannot selectively determine which membership levels can see which categories.

3. The "Check/uncheck all" behavior...
I'm still having trouble with the "Check/uncheck all" behavior on the Forum Categories permission settings. If I click "Check/uncheck all" just once, the check marks DO NOT appear in their boxes. If I click it a second time, the check marks DO appear.

If I then click the "Save Changes" button, WPS CLEARS all of the checkboxes that were just checked (including "Everyone")... and the category is not displayed in the Forum.

Please forgive the stupidity bit. I'm back to being able to launch, which is great, but the requirement to select "Everyone" to have a category show up on the Forum is troublesome.

By the way, the update to v12.09 went very smoothly for me.

And thanks so much for adding the functionality to specify names for the items on the member profile. That saves one of the hacks I needed to do after updating.

I can't seem to replicate this, I set my forum categories to 'say' administrators only, and a normal user can't see them.

Yes, it seems to work for the standard WP roles, but not for the roles in s2Member. I remember that the other similar issue we tackled a couple of months ago had to do with WPS not recognizing roles that included spaces, which all of the s2Member roles do... for example "s2Member Level 3" and "s2Member Level 4".

Even if I assign unspaced names to them via the s2Member control page, the WPS Forum Categories page permissions only display their standard s2Member names, including the spaces.

So, for example, if I set a member to the standard WP role of Editor and set a forum category permission for Editor only, the system works as advertised and only members who are assigned the Editor role can see the category. Same goes for the other WP roles -- Administrator, Author, Contributor, etc.

But if I set a category permission to "s2Member Level 5," the category does not show up for Level 5 members unless I also select the "Everyone" permission for the category.

I will send you privately via WPS email two usernames and passwords -- one for you as an admin and the other as you for a test user that you can use to test any changes you make.

Hi @Scene13, as per our conversations on your site via chat, and adding to it, this issue is now I think resolved. Thanks for testing it earlier, feel free to test again but I think it's now okay. Famous last words, if you find a problem let me know (actually would also be nice if you reply here either way).

It was an issue with the s2 member roles, but I've uploaded the fixed code to your site and it will be included in the next release.

Just tested it. Seems to be working fine, now. I went ahead and deleted the Test Topic I had created in your Test Category (and also the replies you had made to the Test Topic). I will delete the Test Category itself after a little more testing, but the fact that I can hide it now with the Forum Categories roles permissions settings is great.

It looks like I spoke slightly too soon. One odd bit of new behavior... possibly an artefact of the fix.

When I delete a topic or a reply to a topic, the email that goes to the user announcing the rejection/deletion contains only one line of text: "WPS_WL"

I assume this is coming from the symposium_functions.php file... possibly due to a change you made when fixing the other things.

Is that right?

I've left the admin/FTP permissions open to you. Hoping it's a quick fix and that you have time to look into it before you leave for your break.

Never mind... I found the issue and fixed it.

Two of the lines in symposium_functions.php had instances of "WPS_WL" in them. I commented them out and replaced them with the identical lines from the symposium_functions.php file in v12.07.14.

I don't know if they were artefacts of the fix you did yesterday or if they are due to changes in v12.09. But when I replaced them with the same lines from v12.07.14, the functionality is back to normal, and if I delete a topic or reply, the email that the user gets correctly displays the rejection text.
