By the way, the "New Topic" button does appear and still works on my Groups forum pages.

Final bit of info. The "New Topic" does show up on the Forum for me when I log in as an Administrator.

I'm just wondering whether Scene13 is using multi-site, because I had a similar problem.

Amongst other things I am using Symposium on a multi-site network at work, and after updating to 2012_06_16 I found that I couldn't answer to or start new themes.

I found out that the problem apparently was that I hadn't added myself to the users on the page. i.e. I was posting as Super-Admin the whole time. This wasn't a problem until I updated to the most current version, where, as I say, I came across the same problem as Scene13 is describing.

The solution was easy, of course. I added myself as an administrator to the appropriate pages ...

One final note.

Although the issue was fixed for the new forum permissions, it still exists in the Forum Categories settings... that is, the on the Forum Categories page, the Permitted Roles must be set to "Everyone" for any category that is to appear in the forum. If one deselects the "Everyone" checkbox, the category disappears from the forum for all members, regardless of which other options are checked for the category.

So it appears that the fix to the forum permissions (mentioned above) needs to be extended in the next release to the Forum Categories "Permitted Roles," as well.

can I ask you which day the fix will be released? I already spent quite much time thinking the problem was my own errors in updating the latest version until I stumbled on this topic...

I just want my site operational again as soon as possible (indeed I have little patience but haven't we all, hehe) and I don't want to downgrade it.

I've just uploaded the latest release candidate (v12.06.23 RC2) if you want to test it, and then we can be sure the fix is in there....!

Oh - should have said, the official release with be this coming Saturday (23rd).

And... I never explained the fix. It was to do with roles that had spaces in them, eg "s2 members" in the s2members membership plugin.

PLEASE HELP! (in between your bouts of well-deserved vacation).

I just discovered (in v12.07.14) that the permissions problem for the Forum Categories on my member site is still not resolved. (See my note of about a month ago, above.) In fact, there are some that I did not notice (or that were not there before).

I'm still in development in the sandbox environment, planning to go live in early September, so I need this to get resolved very soon. During development, I have been using two different s2Member levels to represent two different types of test users:

• Level 5 (for paid members)


• Level 21 (for honorary, non-paying members).

When the site goes live, new members will joining at Level 6 (no choice).

For some reason, though, my Forum Category permissions seem to be stuck on Levels 5 and 21 and won't allow anything else. Here is a set of permission settings for a test category and the Forum page results.

TEST CONFIGURATION 1 (Works)
User Level: 5
Permission Settings: Everyone, Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum works as advertised, shows category, New Topic button, SEARCH etc. links

TEST CONFIGURATION 2 (Does not work)
User Level: 5
Permission Settings: Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum shows New Topic button and SEARCH etc. links... but NOT the category

TEST CONFIGURATION 3 (Does not work)
User Level: 6
Permission Settings: Everyone, Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum shows message, "Please log in to see this page."

TEST CONFIGURATION 4 (Does not work)
User Level: 6
Permission Settings: Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum shows message, "Please log in to see this page."

TEST CONFIGURATION 5 (Works)
User Level: 21
Permission Settings: Everyone, Level 5, Level 6, Level 21
Results: Forum works as advertised, shows category, New Topic button, SEARCH etc. links

TEST CONFIGURATION 6 (Does not work)

I tried renaming the levels in s2Member to take out spaces... no luck, same behavior.

I cannot launch until this is resolved, because I need the new members who join at Level 6 to have access to the Forum. And in the future, members will be joining at other levels, all of which will need to access the Forum. But the current issue won't allow them to do so.
