You are 110% correct. This was not intentional, but a cock-up on my part. No excuses, total apology. The truth of the matter is I was testing out the tutorial and left it in the code. As you can see on the WPS site this has been removed in an immediate release of v12.05.14 (actually not quite the 14th May, but only 35 minutes until midnight so keeping it simple).

Sorry - lesson to be learned, and to be clear, it would never be my policy to publish private information without the member being able to have a clear way of accepting it first.

Please - if you have upgraded to v12.05.13, please upgrade again to v12.05.14 immediately to remove the offending code.

You can manually fix it now, check out the release notes (I've just added instructions on the manual fix).

In the text on the release notes...you stated "To be clear – as soon as the upgrade is available in your admin section, upgrade to v12.04.14. If you want to manually fix, edit symposium_hooks_filters.php and remove the following from the top of the file:" It should read...upgrade to v12.05.14. But I understood what you meant.

Also a manual fix could be limited to the line add_filter, ending with a useless function, but anyway, I bet most of the admins will want to go for the automated upgrade, so that they can get rid of the upgrade notice...
