Can't get to wp-admin

Couldn't get to the wp-admin page on my site this morning. Disabled the symposium plug in and could get there. Have tried reloading - everything - even blew away database tables and reinstalled - still having problems. What do I need to do? This is making me crazy and I'm about ready to shelve the entire thing.

This is very strange - Im sure it's not a global problem as I would have been inundated with complaints.

Perhaps try downloading the plugin from WordPress and uploading manually to check that the installation process isn't at fault?

I've done that. Are there any pointers in the DB that I need to worry about that aren't in the wp-symposium tables?

I get errors when I try to active the main plugin now.

Not really, all the tables are [prefix]symposium_* and there is data held in [prefix]options and [prefix]usermeta - but none should stop an installation, if the tables are there then they installation scripts simply skips them.

Do you get an error message you can post here?

I may just try starting all over again. Today is a frustrating day technically (problems on 2 different computers), new software installations etc. I think I need to put this aside and go back to it later.
