I'm assuming the town/city is New Delhi / India - I've just tried and didn't get the error.

The code that's failing is the part that goes to Google to get the latitude and longitude co-ordinates of the location. 

I don't want to suppress warnings in case of real problems. Could you please try the following?

Find the following line:

$json = file_get_contents($fgc);

Then put the following line straight after:

if ($json == false) { echo "Failed to connect to Google API with: ".$fgc."   "; }

Now... you will need to change your city or country (Google API is only checked if there is a change to reduce traffic from your server), but then save your profie details.

If Google API has failed to connect (which I suspect, but good to confirm) the you should get an alert box popup with the Google API string - could you take a screenshot and post here?

Ah - that's sorted the problem, it's the space in between New and Delhi - You can see by trying it in your browser with and without the space.
I'll add to the voting page, and will fix for this weekend. 

To confirm, this fails:

and this works for me:

http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/json?address=Delhi+India&sensor=false 

[Update: both are actually working for me, looks like it's odd characters at the end of the string in the original code, either way I will look into it]

The Delhi+india didnt work for me... I tried it... 2 times... Want the screenshot???

I've added a CURL check for the next release on the installation page, as I've checked all variants of New Delhi and India and all is working okay for me.

I am wondering if CURL is installed and activated on your PHP installation? From v12.05.26 you'll be able to check on the WPS installation page, however in the mean time could you check from your hosts?

Or you can run phpinfo() on your server - make a PHP file and this in it:

Ok, so I think you need to ask your hosting company about the original message (http://i49.tinypic.com/3534jdw.jpg), where it refers to "http:// wrapper is disabled in the server configuration by allow_url_fopen=()" and see what the say - let me know here and we'll see if they can help with their feedback.

I assuming that what every values you put in city and country the error message is showing? 

As it works elsewhere (like here), again I'm assuming, but I would say it's got to be something with your server config.

Out of interest, if you set you city and country on WPS site, you don't get any errors?

Simon... Sadly... the host is nt allowing the allow_url_fopen() function... he says its for security reasons... and he cant take a risk...  Can we fix this some other way???

Although good to know why, it's not good news for you. Some hosts do make this decision.

I can put in a check to stop the warning, but without the Google API call working, you'll never have the latitude/longitude calculated, and so distance will not work. What that suffice?

The only other solution is to move hosts.  

Isnt there a way to disable that function??
I mean... disabling the Google API thing?? I'll just want to disable it instead of replacing or changing my host...

Please add a checkbox to disable this in the next release...

I think they talk about not needing an API key, but still using the API...

Google Map Size of location map, in pixels. eg: 250. Set to 0 to hide.

No.... I want to remove the whole thing... Even the option to choose your place(from Profile Details page) And even if you do choose it.. then the place doesnt get showed on map... instead it gets showed in the details(in text form)

Have you tried setting Google Map to 0 to hide the map as @alphagolf suggests?

I can add an option to WPS to remove town and city, that would be easy to do. 

Instead of adding an option to remove town and city field... cant you add an option to remove the use of Google Maps...??? i mean just show it as plain text... the Town and City...???

Further to us talking on chat, I'll add an option to Profile Plus to enable/disable the GoogleAPI call.

Bear in mind, that you won't be able to sort member directory by distance as it will also disable that feature.

Talking about member directory... I, like many others, still have that "no members" bug on my test site, which makes me reluctant from upgrading my live site (since March !). Some of us are luckier than others...

Then that has to be fixed as a priority. @alphagolf, could you try the rc.zip on your test site so I know it doesn't work with current version after a couple of tweaks.

@Simon ..... Like i said... there is a conflict between the profile plus and members directory page... sadly, I read the code... and I was nt able to find anything on my own....

Used to worked with PP not activated, or City/Country not filled by the querying member, unfortunately it no longer works at all...

Another remark, I could get it to work when commenting out all stuff related to distance computation.

Yep @alphagolf, it seems to be the computation, in particular the use of FLOOR (yet to be 100% confirmed).

On one of my advertiser sites, i simply changed the static map to an iframe of the Google Map as opposed to a link to it. The result is a Google Map inside a window, instead of a picture that links to a map.

Just change symposium_profile_functions.php  LINES 538-554 to the following:

On this site I use a big map, but you can change width and height to your desired size (and border color). Just make sure the width matches the size you designate on the Dashboard->Symposium->Profile-> Map Size...    Hope this helps.... (and i hope my partners don't shoot me for sharing code...)
